Matt Mellott, CCIM, SIOR, is the Managing Partner and founder of Sterling Commercial Real Estate Advisors. A former F/A-18 Hornet pilot in the United States Marine Corps, Matt’s military background gives him a focus on execution and strategy uncommon to the commercial real estate industry.
Matt’s vision for SterlingCRE has driven the firm’s rapid growth since its inception in 2017. Starting with a two-person team, SterlingCRE has become the premier commercial real estate firm in Montana, executing hundreds of successful transactions across office, retail, multifamily, industrial, and land asset classes. His national-level experience in property analysis, investment structuring, and market forecasting, combined with local market insights, ensures that SterlingCRE clients receive exceptional service and results.
Recognized as a thought leader in the commercial real estate community, Matt holds both the CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) and SIOR (Society of Industrial and Office Realtors) designations—two of the highest endorsements in the industry. He is a trusted advisor, known for his data-driven approach, which allows clients to make informed, confident decisions in a competitive market.
In addition to leading SterlingCRE, Matt is deeply engaged in civic leadership. He is a Montana Ambassador, a Leadership Montana graduate, and has served the Missoula Downtown Association (MDA) for over seven years. He is currently the MDA Vice President of Marketing following a long-standing tenure on its Board of Directors. Beyond the office, Matt is a dedicated husband and father, balancing his professional success with the same energy and precision that guided him as a Marine Corps pilot.
Outside of work, Matt enjoys hiking and backpacking in Montana’s great outdoors with his six children and wife, Danielle. Dabbling in golf, roasting coffee, and occasionally scaring ducks during hunting season keep him busy at home. Matt is always on the lookout for the perfect taco spot to rival his all-time favorite, Alejandro’s.
