About WinCo

Located in the former ShopKo on South Reserve Street and South Avenue in Missoula, Montana, WinCo began remodeling the 100,000 square foot facility in early 2020.

It’s not the first – or the last – WinCo in Montana. In March of 2019, WinCo opened stores in Helena and Billings. In Bozeman, a 75,000 square foot WinCo store is under construction as of summer 2020. Bozeman may have opened before Missoula originally, but a lawsuit delayed the process.

Based in Boise, Idaho, WinCo is employee-owned. The store touts a low-priced and gimmick-free shopping experience with bulk options, similar to Smart Foodservice or CostCo. What do you need to know before shopping at a WinCo?

  • No credit cards – debit, check or cash only
  • You bag your own groceries
  • Customers may bring their own reusable shopping bags
  • No outside containers for bulk items
  • Party platters and sheet cakes are available
  • Masks are required at all times

Working at WinCo

The Missoulian reported that WinCo would bring more than 140 jobs into the community. As an employee-owned company, WinCo offers annual stock offerings, healthcare, tuition assistance, retirement benefits, and “competitive pay.

On Glassdoor.com, a popular site to review employers, WinCo holds a 3.5-star rating, with a 60% approval of the CEO. In general, raters mentioned good benefits. We’re looking forward to hearing from local WinCo employees about their experiences working for WinCo.

What We’re Excited For

Fresh ground peanut butter, this famous in-house WinCo bread we’ve heard so much about, and great prices on local produce.

According to public record, WinCo Foods, LLC has acquired the site and plans to remodel and open a new store.

The popular warehouse style grocer recently opened facilities in Billings and Helena and has had its sights set on Missoula for sometime.  It now appears that they intend to set up shop right next to Rosauers. While that’s good for Missoula shoppers, Rosauers may not be as excited about the prospect.

Stay tuned as this, and many other new developments unfold.
